Alive & Kicking – Tackling Loneliness in Greater Springburn

About Alive & Kicking

Alive & Kicking was founded in 1988 under its original name, The Springburn Elderly & Disabled Forum.

For over three decades, the organisation has supported older and disabled residents across the Greater Springburn area of North East Glasgow, helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness through community led activity.

This work began long before national strategies recognised the issue. By the time the Scottish Government introduced its ‘Connected Communities’ approach in 2018, Alive & Kicking had already been delivering practical local support for over 30 years.

In 2022, the organisation’s long standing activity centre on Red Road closed after serving the community for three decades.

Alive & Kicking adapted quickly and continues to deliver its services across Greater Springburn, using a range of local halls and venues to host social gatherings, creative programmes and regular activities.

One of the organisation’s most valued activities is the Concert Party, where members rehearse together and perform for a variety of audiences. The Concert Party has been a cornerstone of Alive & Kicking for many years, building confidence, connection and wellbeing through performance and shared experience.
